Holiday Weekends - Not the Norm

Saturday we were hosting garage sale and then taking about 30 kids to the Dynamo game. I had no problem at home because I could eat my own food. We stopped off at a birthday party for some friends (their daughter was turing one). I ate a piece of corn that had been roasted on the grill and a hamburger patty wrapped in lettuce. At the game Lisa and I split a chicken strip basket and I had a bag of chips and a few handfuls of popcorn. I managed to stay within my points for the day, but I just didn't feel full or like I should have (not enough healthy food).

Wow - what a day yesterday! Lisa had a wedding in Spring so we were up and running from the get go and then we went to a birthday party for my niece at my parent's house and then to an alumni board meeting that involved a potluck dinner. I used one of our tools that they teach us at WW to make sure the day was a success.

I didn't care what anyone thought at the b-day party and I took the time to weigh and measure all my food and make good choices because I knew that the evening potluck might be more of a challenge for me. My parents had lots of fresh fruit and veggies and my brother had grilled chicken breasts and shrimp so it was easy to eat healthy. Lisa and I split a cupcake and I had a piece of mum's homemade shortbread (yummy!!!).

Our contribution to the potluck was a fresh salad made from spinach, field greens, strawberries, cucumber, and cashews. It was delicious and I served it with a raspberry vinagrete (sp) dressing. I took my own chicken breast since I didn't know what to expect and I took my own dressing (FF catalina - my favorite). I made a big plate of salad and put my chicken breast on top then I had a 1/2 a cup of homemade macaroni and cheese with a little bit of baked beans. I did indulge a little with peach crisp (homemade by Trish) and blue bell vanilla ice cream (just a dollup) - but I stayed within my points total for the day.

I wasn't sure how I would feel weighing and measuring everything in front of people or bringing my own food with me, but I knew I had to do it no matter what. It felt weird, but I knew my family understood and were supportive and I really don't think anyone noticed at the board meeting except our host and hostess (and they support what I am doing).

That has been my weekend so far.

  1. Yep it is not in what the rest of the world thinks but rather in what you think. You are beginning to see the light. Enjoy what you need to enjoy and the rest of the world can catch up to your enjoyment or stay crying in the background because they are not having fun.

    Way to go.

  2. Amen! I agree completely. I'm proud of you for sticking to your guns. And I think it worked out well, I hope you feel like you had a good start to the week (Sunday-Saturday speaking).

And Monday wasn't so bad either! ;)
