Some people may ask why the word "shed" instead of "loss". Loss implies that it is missing and that you need to go and look for it. As I do not want to find the weight I take off then I needed to pick another term that meant that I was changing and never going back. Another way to look at it is that when you shed something a new thing emerges from the old that is different and that is what I am working on becoming - something different in all aspects of the word different - physical, mental, and emotional.
